Big choices and Big changes..

Sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time. Thank you Bobbi for your nice comment and checking up on us. The kids are both healthy and doing fine. We have just been wrestling with a big decision the past few weeks. In the end we decided late last week that we need to move back to where we were living two years ago. It is seven hours from where we live now and it means leaving a nice friendly small town where we have made some really good friends. The hardest thing for me is it means Alex leaving his school that we both LOVED so much this year. Jens job has not been what we expected when we moved here two years ago and we had hoped things would change or we would find a way to make it work. In the end it is not to be. I am very excited about living in a bigger city with all that brings again. We will be about 2 hrs away from Grandparents again so that will be great.

I have to say that I am so proud of Alex. I was literally sick to my stomach for two days waiting for Jens to give notice so we could tell Alex and "go public". This is a very small close nit town so we had to wait. Well we told him and he was very excited listing the things he missed doing that we did there. He has cried a few tears realizing that he won't be on the playground with his friends here in first grade etc...Oh how that hurts to see him hurt. I would give a lot for him to be able to stay. I do know that once we get there and he sees some friends from Preschool again and meets his class next year he will be OK. I am so proud of him and how well he is doing. So that is what is up in the Guatemama Two household. Anyone have any advice on how to handle a move with a 6 year old? I just pray that this is the last move and that he can spend his school years in one place from now on.

It just seems this roller coaster of a ride we have been on this past year is never ending. Hope this is it for a while. I am getting motion sickness.

Great pic of Alex. That is a tough decision. I think Alex will do just fine. He is so young he will make friends quickly. Check your local bookstore for books about moving and new schools. I always find them helpful.

Good luck with the packing and all. Let's hope this is it for awhile.

Glad you are back! I missed you.

Love the pics of Alex and Anika!
What a tough decision. I'm sure Alex will be okay. Being able to get re-aquainted with his friends from preschool over the summer will help with the change in school. Good luck with the packing.

My gosh, we do always seem to be on some kind of a "same page". Sam is changing schools next year b/c he is going to be going to the school I will be returning to to teach at. This decision has been a HUGE topic of discussion at our house b/c I feel so bad about taking him away from some friends... the thing I know about kids this age is that they are so adaptable.... Alex and Sam will both have buddie sooner than we can worry about it! I am excited for you that you are returning to a town that you looking forward to. Change always comes with worry and excitement... I hope the excitement will outway the worry! You have been through harder times than a move, so remember that! Good luck. PS- Please forgive my pitiful emailing!!!!! I LOVE hearing from you!!!!

oh my - that is a huge decision, isn't it!?! It sounds like you did a remarkable job determining what's best for your family and my, my isn't Alex the big boy.

It will be tough on him, but they'll get through it.

We got custody of my 16 year old son when he was 10. He moved from Florida to Virginia and he had only been here for visit trips before. We got custody in June, so I went to the elem. school he was going to be going to and found programs that those kids would be doing that summer. That way, he would have friends already on the first day of school. It worked, he still has a lot of those same friends.

Good luck!

Tracy,

Alex has two great parents and a stable family.. he will adjust fine.. It will be much harder on you than him.. The absolute best thing you can do is be happy. If you are happy about the decision he will be comfortable with it. If he sees you upset he will be. Just be honest with him and be there He will do great you'll see.. I am sorry you have to go through this but in the end it will be for the best.

We understand the feeling of moving your kids at that age.

But it's good to know you are moving to a place you know. It makes the transition so much easier.

I hope you keep the blog going. If we drive through to visit MR's family, maybe we can connect some time. When we told Eli Alex was moving, his first question was if it was closer, or close enough to see him. I think he was disappointed it was not quite as close as he hoped.
